Traffic Accident on Tangshan Section of Shenzhen Expressway: Fire Extinguished, Recovery Time Uncertain

Deep News10-17

On October 17 around 10 AM, a traffic accident occurred on the Tangshan section of the Shenzhen Expressway heading towards Tianjin. Videos shared by netizens showed thick black smoke at the scene, with fire extending several meters along the roadway. This incident has resulted in a two-kilometer traffic jam in the direction towards Tianjin, with some users reporting being stuck for three hours without any progress. Additionally, a navigation map shared online indicated that a segment near the Tiaogu Village along the Shenzhen Expressway has been closed for as much as 150 kilometers. A customer service representative from the Shenzhen Expressway confirmed to reporters that there was indeed a traffic incident at the Tianzhuang section, stating, “Traffic is quite congested towards Tianjin, and vehicles are currently prohibited from entering the road.” They further noted that some entrance ramps towards Tianjin were temporarily restricted. When asked about the possible recovery time for traffic flow, the representative said, “Currently, we are unsure.” Presently, all vehicles are prohibited from entering the Tianjin direction at Fengnan Station, Tangshan South Station, Tanggang Station, and Tangshan East Station on the Shenzhen Expressway. Later, while inquiring about the cause of the accident with the Fengnan unit of the expressway police, workers indicated that two large trucks were involved in a rear-end collision that led to the incident. The fire has been controlled, but due to the “significant difficulty in clearing the scene,” they are unable to determine a specific time for when traffic can resume.
