Zhang Bin at Bund Summit: Aggregate Demand Plays a Key Role in AI Development

The 2026 Bund Summit, themed "Technology, Geopolitics and the Global Economy," was held in Huangpu District, Shanghai, from October 19 to 22, 2026.

Zhang Bin, a senior researcher at the China Finance 40 Forum, attended the conference and took part in a roundtable discussion.

Zhang Bin stated that aggregate demand is also very important for the development of 人工智能 (Artificial Intelligence). If aggregate demand is too weak, it means the corporate sector's cash flow situation is poor and its expectations for the future are also poor, which will dampen investment.

If the corporate sector makes new investments and tries new technologies, this is conducive to the application of more 人工智能 (Artificial Intelligence) technologies, and this is a short-term factor.

He also said that from a medium- and long-term perspective, 人工智能 (Artificial Intelligence) has three levels: first, the 人工智能 (Artificial Intelligence) technology itself; second, the application of 人工智能 (Artificial Intelligence); and third, changes in relative prices brought about by the use of 人工智能 (Artificial Intelligence). This is basically unrelated to 人工智能 (Artificial Intelligence) itself, but it may bring major changes.

Zhang Bin emphasized that if sufficient market competition can be introduced, a large number of new job opportunities and new possibilities can be created, but if the market remains highly regulated, enterprises can benefit from it, yet the benefits will be limited.
