Former President Trump Suggests U.S. Could Levy 20% Fee on Middle Eastern Oil Revenues

Former President Donald Trump stated in a recent interview that the United States could act as the "guardian" of the Strait of Hormuz and impose a 20% fee on oil revenues from the Middle East if an agreement with Iran is not reached.

In the interview, Trump indicated he had communicated with Iranian officials, cautioning them against any move to close the vital Strait of Hormuz. He reportedly warned that such an action would have severe consequences for Iran's sovereignty.

Trump asserted that the U.S. might assume control of the strategic waterway if deemed necessary, promising a forceful response. He framed the potential fee as a "toll" that would be implemented should negotiations fail to produce a deal.

He characterized the current understanding with Iran as merely an extension of a ceasefire, not a final agreement. Trump emphasized he would keep all options available if Iran does not demonstrate serious commitment at the negotiating table.

Responding to comments from Iran's president regarding uranium enrichment rights, Trump advised the Iranian leader to be cautious with his language.

In a separate social media post, Trump demanded that Iran immediately cease its proxy activities in Lebanon, threatening another, even more powerful, military strike against Iran if it does not comply.
