BNP Paribas Asset Management has strengthened its exchange-traded fund business with the appointment of Kate Chung as Southeast Asia and India ETF Sales Specialist. In a parallel move, Benny Cheung has been named Hong Kong Client Relationship Manager and ETF Specialist, according to an official statement from the firm.
Based in Singapore, Chung will report directly to Angelia Chin-Sharpe, who serves as Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas Asset Management Singapore and also oversees distribution for the Global Client Group Liquidity Strategies unit across Southeast Asia and India. Cheung, stationed in Hong Kong, will report to Peggy Lee, the Hong Kong CEO who additionally manages distribution for the same liquidity strategies division in Hong Kong and offshore China markets.
These two newly created positions are designed to support the company's broader ambition of expanding its ETF platform and distribution reach, with a stated goal of generating more than 100 billion euros in net inflows by 2030. The appointments reflect a strategic push to capture a larger share of the rapidly growing Asian ETF landscape.
Before joining BNP Paribas Asset Management, Chung previously worked at HSBC Asset Management in Singapore, where she led ETF and index sales across Southeast Asia. Her earlier career also included a role in ETF distribution at BlackRock in Hong Kong. Cheung brings substantial industry experience from his previous tenure on the former AXA IM Select platform, along with senior positions held at DWS Xtrackers, Vanguard, and Allianz Global Investors.
Commenting on the appointments, Mike Nikou, Chief Executive Officer for Asia Pacific, highlighted the accelerating growth of the regional ETF market, driven by increasing investor preference for flexible and diversified investment tools. He noted that the addition of Chung and Cheung will bring significant strength to the team, and their client-focused expertise will help BNP Paribas Asset Management broaden its market coverage while accelerating ETF adoption across a wide range of clients.
The company has recently launched more than 75 new ETFs, including active strategies and innovative product offerings, and is actively expanding distribution through wealth platforms and digital channels. These efforts align with the firm's long-term commitment to establishing a leading position in the global ETF management space.
