A donation agreement was recently signed between Metax Integrated Circuits (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Tsinghua University. The signing ceremony was held at Bing Suo. Attendees included Chen Weiliang, a Tsinghua University master's alumnus from the class of 1999 and the Founder, Chairman, and General Manager of Metax; Zeng Rong, Executive Vice President of Tsinghua University; and Yau Shing-Tung, Tsinghua University Distinguished Professor, Dean of Qiuzhen College, and Director of the Yau Mathematical Sciences Center. The ceremony was presided over by Yuan Wei, Secretary-General of the Tsinghua University Education Foundation.
In his speech, Chen Weiliang reflected on his student years at Tsinghua and explained the sentiment behind the name "Metax," noting that the character "沐" embodies the spirit of the university's famous scenery. He stated that high-end computing power is a core element of national strategic needs, while fundamental disciplines are the essential foundation for technological innovation. Coinciding with the 115th anniversary of Tsinghua University and the 5th anniversary of Qiuzhen College, this donation will support the overall development of Qiuzhen College, with a focus on the construction of its physical campus. This contribution is a practical way to give back to his alma mater and support the growth of top-tier domestic talent.
Zeng Rong expressed gratitude on behalf of Tsinghua University for the generous donation. He emphasized that the university consistently upholds its motto and is committed to nurturing a new generation, tackling scientific challenges, and serving national development. Under the leadership of Professor Yau, Qiuzhen College serves as a key base for deepening fundamental disciplines and cultivating top talent, steadily advancing the goal of "cultivating world-class talent domestically." He noted that mathematics is the foundation of cutting-edge fields like chip design and artificial intelligence, and this donation will boost the development of fundamental science and talent cultivation, injecting new momentum into the nation's pursuit of high-level technological self-reliance.
Professor Yau reviewed the developmental journey and educational achievements of Qiuzhen College over the past five years. He expressed hope that more members of society would support the advancement of fundamental disciplines, jointly promoting breakthroughs in basic scientific research at Tsinghua University and helping to cultivate more leaders who can guide global technological progress for the nation.
Following the speeches, Chen Weiliang and Yuan Wei signed the donation agreement. Zeng Rong presented a commemorative plaque to Chen Weiliang, and Professor Yau presented him with a gift.
Also in attendance were Peng Li, Co-founder, CTO, and Chief Hardware Architect of Metax; Yang Jian, Co-founder, CTO, and Chief Software Architect; Li Zhaoshi, Dean of the Metax Guangqi Intelligent Research Institute; and relevant representatives from Qiuzhen College, the Yau Mathematical Sciences Center, and the Education Foundation.
