From December 9 to 10, 2025, the launch ceremony of the "Green Mountains & Beautiful China Tour" campaign, along with its first stop—"Green Mountains & Beautiful Gansu Tour"—kicked off in Lanzhou, a city along the Yellow River. This event marks the beginning of an ecological journey that brings together diverse expertise to promote environmental culture.
Co-hosted by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment's Education and Communication Center, the Gansu Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, and the Lanzhou Municipal Government, the event gathered environmental experts, media representatives, corporate leaders, international organizations, NGOs, and cultural figures. Together, they explored strategies for ecological governance and envisioned a blueprint for building a beautiful China. Participants also embarked on field trips to document the nation’s stunning landscapes through photography, art, and storytelling.
At the opening ceremony, Lanzhou Vice Mayor Duan Tingzhi highlighted the city’s achievements in integrating the "Two Mountains" concept—prioritizing ecological conservation—into urban development. He emphasized Lanzhou’s progress in protecting the Yellow River, maintaining clear skies ("Lanzhou Blue"), and expanding green spaces ("Golden City Green"), which have elevated both ecological and economic value.
Li Zuobin, Gansu’s Ecological and Environmental Supervision Commissioner, underscored Gansu’s critical role as a western ecological barrier. He noted that ecological culture is a driving force for sustainable development and expressed hope that the campaign would amplify Gansu’s green transformation stories.
Lin Yu, Deputy Director of the Ministry’s Education and Communication Center, described the campaign as a platform to unite societal wisdom for ecological preservation. By blending environmental education with eco-tourism, the initiative aims to inspire nationwide action for green development. Gansu, with its rich ecological heritage—from the desert-control miracles of Babusha to the restoration of the Qilian Mountains National Park—was chosen as the symbolic starting point.
The launch featured a collective handprint ceremony, symbolizing unity in the "Beautiful China Action." Renowned artist Guo Ziliang created calligraphic works for the campaign, while Lin Yu and Li Zuobin appointed him as an Ecological Culture Ambassador. A strategic agreement was also signed to deepen ecological education cooperation in Gansu.
The event included a salon on green development, where experts like Professor Lan Hong of Renmin University and Wang Xingong of the Yellow River Ecological and Environmental Supervision Bureau shared insights on low-carbon policies and regional conservation. Corporate leaders from China Energy Conservation Group, PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical, and others discussed innovations in sustainability. NGOs, including WWF and SEE, highlighted public participation in environmental governance.
Field trips took participants to Lanzhou’s Qinchuan National Wetland Park, where they observed wetland restoration and biodiversity. They also visited a high-tech flower farm in Lanzhou New Area, showcasing the fusion of modern agriculture and ecological industry. A tour of Lanzhou Petrochemical’s green facilities and a panoramic view of the Yellow River underscored the region’s balance between industry and nature.
Celebrities like actors Liu Tao and Huang Xuan joined as ambassadors, urging public engagement in ecological conservation. The campaign leverages multimedia, including short videos and livestreams, to share China’s green stories.
Starting in Gansu, the "Green Mountains & Beautiful China Tour" will expand to cities like Wuwei, Jinzhou, and Changzhou in 2026, continuing to spotlight the nation’s ecological progress.
