Xiaomi's Lei Jun Explains Breakthrough in Electric Motor Technology Achieving 27,200 RPM

Xiaomi Group founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun disclosed in a live broadcast that the first-generation Xiaomi SU7 and Xiaomi YU7 models are developed on the Modena platform, which is designed specifically for pure electric vehicles. This platform offers advantages in optimizing vehicle appearance, proportion, and achieving a lower stance. Lei Jun noted that Xiaomi's car dimensions are slightly larger than those of the Tesla Model 3.

During the broadcast, Lei Jun highlighted that a key strength of the SU7 lies in its powerful electric motor. In addition to collaborating with United Automotive Electronic Systems and Inovance, Xiaomi has developed its own motor technology. The Xiaomi V8s, an in-house developed motor, achieves a maximum speed of 27,200 RPM.

Lei Jun explained that the breakthrough in reaching such high rotational speeds was made possible by the use of silicon steel sheets in the rotor, which significantly enhances strength. Xiaomi has doubled the strength of the silicon steel sheets, enabling higher RPM performance. This technology was certified by industry experts in 2023. The next-generation motor under development at Xiaomi's laboratory is expected to reach 35,000 RPM.
