Omnicell Inc. (OMCL) shares plummeted over 5% on Wednesday, following the company's third-quarter 2024 earnings release. Despite meeting or exceeding guidance, the results revealed several concerning factors that may have contributed to the stock's decline.
One significant issue highlighted in the earnings call was the year-over-year decrease in total revenue and product revenue. Total revenue for Q3 2024 dropped by $16 million compared to the same period in 2023, while product revenue fell by a substantial $30 million. This revenue decline, primarily attributed to lower volumes from the automated dispensing systems business, raised concerns among investors.
Furthermore, Omnicell's profitability metrics also showed signs of weakness. Non-GAAP EBITDA decreased by $1 million from the previous quarter and $2 million from Q3 2023. The company cited macroeconomic factors and lingering supply chain issues from the COVID-19 pandemic as potential headwinds impacting gross margins and profitability.
