Samsung Initiates Mass Production of High-Performance Solid-State Drive for NVIDIA's Forthcoming Vera Rubin Platform

Samsung Electronics has commenced mass production of its most advanced data center storage device, which will be utilized within NVIDIA's upcoming Vera Rubin platform.

This enterprise-grade solid-state drive, named the PM1763, was unveiled earlier this year at the NVIDIA GTC conference. At the event, Samsung showcased it alongside next-generation High Bandwidth Memory HBM4 and the low-power module SOCAMM2, presenting it as part of a comprehensive solution specifically engineered for AI data centers.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Samsung indicated that this storage device employs the latest V-NAND flash memory chips and a newly developed 4-nanometer controller, achieving read and write speeds more than double those of its predecessor. The PM1763 is designed to reduce data latency for advanced processors and AI accelerators. Samsung stated that to maintain high-speed operation during AI training and inference processes, the drive is equipped with a liquid cooling system.

According to data from TrendForce, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. held the largest share of the enterprise SSD market in the first quarter of this year, at 35%. It was followed sequentially by SK Hynix, Micron, Kioxia, and Kioxia's partner, SanDisk.
