The 2026 Sustainable Global Leaders Conference, along with the Second Green Industry and Sustainable Consumption Expo, was held in Shanghai from October 20 to 22.
Speaking at the event, Lalamove Chief Technology Officer Zhang Hao stated that when discussing sustainable development and logistics, the goal should not be to ask users to make greener choices, but rather to build sustainability and waste reduction into product design from the start, so that users do not need to make any extra effort.
Zhang Hao illustrated his point with Lalamove's 2025 data. On order allocation, the platform mainly follows a "nearest-first" principle, with drivers responding within an average of 15 seconds, and same-city orders completing pickup in as little as 5 minutes. On route planning, Lalamove has built route planning and loading/unloading point recommendation capabilities tailored to freight scenarios, letting drivers know where to pick up and drop off cargo and which route is most efficient. In 2025, the platform reduced detours by nearly 510 million kilometers through scientific route planning, cutting carbon emissions by 84,000 tonnes overall. On vehicle recommendation, many users do not know which vehicle type to choose, so the platform uses AI algorithms to match the most suitable vehicle based on cargo type and quantity, with 93.88% of recommendations being accurate. In addition, 60% of Lalamove orders in 2025 were completed by new energy vans. Zhang Hao said that the Duola new energy vans designed by Lalamove for freight scenarios are expected to achieve 826 million kilometers of green driving mileage and reduce 80,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per 10,000 vehicles each year. "We hope users can more easily make green and sustainable consumption choices."
In Zhang Hao's view, sustainability should not be an extra action imposed on users, but should be embedded in products and technology. The platform ensures waste reduction at the stage of product design and technology development, making green choices the default option rather than a decision users must deliberately make.
