Liaoning's Consumer Price Index Rises 1.1% Year-on-Year in June

In June, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Liaoning province increased by 1.1% compared to the same period last year, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. This figure was 0.1 percentage points higher than the national average. On a month-to-month basis, the CPI declined by 0.5%, which was 0.2 percentage points lower than the national average decrease. The price drop was observed in both urban areas, down 0.5%, and rural areas, down 0.4%. Food prices fell by 0.7%, while non-food prices decreased by 0.4%. Consumer goods prices dropped by 0.8%, and service prices remained unchanged.

Analyzing Year-on-Year Price Changes

Examining the year-on-year comparison, price movements for eight major categories of goods and services showed a pattern of "six increases, one decrease, and one unchanged." Prices for other goods and services saw the most significant rise, increasing by 10.0%. This was followed by transportation and communication costs, up 5.7%, and healthcare expenses, which rose 1.4%. Prices for education, culture, and entertainment increased by 0.7%, clothing costs went up 0.5%, and prices for household goods and services edged up 0.4%. In contrast, prices for food, tobacco, alcohol, and dining out fell by 1.1%. Housing costs remained stable compared to the previous month.

Examining Month-to-Month Price Fluctuations

Looking at the month-to-month changes, the pattern was "two increases, five decreases, and one unchanged." The 0.7% decline in food prices contributed approximately 0.13 percentage points to the overall decrease in the price level. Within the food category, egg prices surged 8.2%, adding about 0.05 percentage points to the overall index, driven by demand during the Dragon Boat Festival and low inventory levels. Conversely, pork prices fell 2.7% month-on-month, subtracting roughly 0.04 percentage points from the total index, due to ample supply from concentrated hog slaughter and weaker seasonal demand. Fresh fruit prices dropped 6.1%, contributing about 0.17 percentage points to the overall decline, as seasonal produce flooded the market.

Service prices held steady from the previous month. However, airfare prices decreased by 2.6%, reducing the overall price level by about 0.02 percentage points, as travel demand during the Dragon Boat Festival was lower than during the Labor Day holiday and jet fuel prices declined. The cost of dining out and accommodation fell by 10.3% month-on-month, pulling down the overall index by approximately 0.03 percentage points.

Prices for industrial consumer goods decreased by 1.0% compared to May, contributing about 0.32 percentage points to the overall price decline. Specifically, gold jewelry prices fell 8.9%, subtracting around 0.07 percentage points, while gasoline prices dropped 4.9%, reducing the overall index by about 0.23 percentage points.
