Net Interest Margin Outlook for H2: Qingdao Bank Chairman Sees Stabilization Signs Across the Industry

Deep News09-04 16:01

At the 2026 interim results briefing held on September 4, Bank Of Qingdao Co.,Ltd. (03866) Chairman Jing Zailun addressed the trajectory of net interest margin (NIM). He noted that the bank's NIM stood at 1.63% in the first half of 2026, a decrease of 3 basis points from the start of the year, while remaining flat quarter-on-quarter.

Amid falling market rates and ongoing efforts to support the real economy, the bank has prioritized margin management by optimizing both sides of the balance sheet. On the asset side, it has increased allocation to higher-yielding instruments such as loans to stabilize income levels. On the liability side, the focus is on cost control, with measures including market-based deposit rate adjustments and term structure optimization to reduce funding costs.

Looking ahead, Jing indicated that the industry is beginning to show signs of stabilization. He emphasized that the bank will continue to refine its margin management practices to sustain a healthy NIM level.
