Samsung Electronics to Begin Construction on Second Texas Chip Plant by Year-End

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced on Thursday that it will begin construction on its second semiconductor wafer plant, named Taylor Fab 2, at its Taylor, Texas site by the end of this year.

The world's largest memory chip maker stated during an earnings call that it plans to commence construction of the Taylor Fab 2 facility within 2026, with a target of starting production by 2030.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. also noted that the construction of the first Taylor wafer plant, Taylor Fab 1, is progressing as scheduled and is expected to begin operations in 2026. Following the factory's launch, the company will gradually expand production of 2-nanometer process chips.

The company stated, "As customer inquiries for the 1.4-nanometer process continue to increase, we are also evaluating options for additional wafer manufacturing capacity. Detailed plans will be developed in stages based on customer orders and business negotiations."

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. also mentioned that it is gradually shifting mature process capacity toward more profitable production of 3-nanometer products, while simultaneously concentrating resources on developing high-value specialty chips that feature high technical barriers.
