ETF Movement: F Samsung Crude Oil Futures Surges Over 4% in Afternoon Trading Amid US Sanctions on Iran and High Q2 Oil Price Forecasts

Stock News07-08

The F Samsung Crude Oil Futures ETF (03175) experienced a significant increase of over 4% during afternoon trading. As of the latest update, it is up 4.28%, trading at HK$9.005, with a turnover of HK$13.1204 million.

Market reports indicate that on July 8, local time, explosions occurred in several locations in southern Iran. The US Central Command released a statement and video claiming that US forces launched a new offensive strike against Iran. This action was described as a "direct response" to Iran's recent attacks on merchant ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz.

In response, Iran stated that the US attacks and the reinstatement of oil sanctions constitute a severe violation of the Iran-US understanding memorandum, expressing "strong condemnation." These developments mark what is considered the "most serious escalation" since the memorandum was signed on June 17.

Hua Tai Futures noted that the earlier decline in oil prices was partly due to market expectations of a relaxation in US sanctions on Iran. If these sanctions are reinstated, the market could see a significant rebound.

Hua Tai Securities analysts believe that factors such as the US-Israel-Iran conflict and disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz in the second quarter of 2026 have sustained tight global oil and gas supplies. While the price trend moderated after tensions eased in June, the average price of Brent crude for Q2 showed significant year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter increases. The institution anticipates that profitability for oil and gas exploration companies will see substantial improvement both year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter.
