Midea Group Co., Ltd. disclosed on 29 April 2026 that incumbent independent non-executive director (INED) Dr. Qiu Lili has tendered her resignation for career-planning reasons. Her departure, together with her roles on the audit, remuneration and evaluation, nomination, and strategy committees, will take effect once a successor is elected at the company’s forthcoming general meeting.
To ensure continuity of board oversight, the Board has nominated Dr. Zhang Ya—currently vice dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence at Shanghai Jiao Tong University—as an INED candidate for the fifth board session. If approved by shareholders, Dr. Zhang will assume Dr. Qiu’s committee seats for the remainder of the current board term and receive an annual director’s remuneration of RMB 0.45 million (tax inclusive).
Dr. Zhang, 47, brings a background spanning artificial intelligence and medical technology, along with prior experience at Yahoo! Inc. and the University of Kansas. The Board and its nomination committee have confirmed her compliance with the independence criteria under Hong Kong Listing Rules.
A circular detailing Dr. Zhang’s proposed appointment and the general-meeting notice will be published on the company’s and HKEX websites in due course.
