In the first three quarters, Xuzhou's GDP reached 759.145 billion yuan.
Xuzhou, which fell just short of the trillion-yuan GDP city club last year, recently released its economic performance for the first three quarters. In the first three quarters, Xuzhou achieved a regional gross domestic product (GDP) of 759.145 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.1%. Among this, the added value of the primary industry was 49.279 billion yuan, up 2.7% year-on-year; the added value of the secondary industry was 270.918 billion yuan, up 4.0%; and the added value of the tertiary industry was 438.948 billion yuan, up 6.1%. Based on this calculation, there is little suspense that Xuzhou's GDP will exceed one trillion yuan in 2026.
In recent years, Xuzhou has continued to build itself into the central city of the Huaihai Economic Zone and a provincial sub-central city. In 2025, the city achieved a regional gross domestic product of 995.722 billion yuan, an increase of 5.8% over the previous year at constant prices. Xuzhou was just "one step" away from sprinting into the "trillion-yuan city" club.
In 2025, after Wenzhou and Dalian joined the ranks of trillion-yuan GDP cities, there were 29 such cities, including 4 municipalities directly under the central government (Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing), 11 provincial capitals (Guangzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Changsha, Zhengzhou, Hefei, Fuzhou, Jinan, Xi'an), 4 cities with separate state planning (Shenzhen, Ningbo, Qingdao, Dalian), and 10 ordinary prefecture-level cities (Suzhou, Wuxi, Nantong, Changzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Quanzhou, Yantai, Tangshan, Wenzhou).
From the perspective of total economic output, in 2025, Shanghai and Beijing exceeded 5 trillion yuan, Shenzhen, Chongqing, and Guangzhou were above 3 trillion yuan, and Suzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Wuhan exceeded 2 trillion yuan. In the first three quarters of 2026, Shanghai and Beijing both saw their GDP exceed 4 trillion yuan, Shenzhen stepped onto the 3 trillion yuan threshold for the first time, and Guangzhou recorded a growth rate of 5.7%, a new high for the same period in nearly five years. The GDP growth rates of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen were collectively higher than the national average, demonstrating strong resilience during the stage of economic transformation and upgrading, and further highlighting their scale advantages.
At the same time, as scientific and technological innovation becomes the basic driving force for development, a number of modern industrial clusters are accelerating their concentration in strong provincial capital cities and central cities in the central and western regions. Industrial development drives rapid growth in employment, which in turn drives sustained and rapid growth in income levels. For example, last year, Hefei's全社会 research and development investment intensity was 4.11%, ranking third among provincial capital cities. On July 27 this year, Changxin Technology officially listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's STAR Market, making Hefei the fourth city by total A-share market capitalization. In the first three quarters of this year, Hefei's citywide regional gross domestic product was 1,118 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.5% at constant prices. A Yicai reporter found after review that Hefei's GDP growth rate in the first three quarters led among the 29 trillion-yuan GDP cities. In Wuhan's Optics Valley, from a single optical fiber to the entire industrial chain of optical display, optical modules, optical chips, materials, and more, 16,000 optoelectronic enterprises gather here, forming a trillion-yuan-level ecosystem of "optical core, screen, terminal, and network."
