Tencent's Marvis Evolves Into an AI Steward for Personal Device and Digital Asset Management

Deep News09-24 11:11

Tencent has rolled out a refreshed edition of its Marvis platform, shifting its role from a conventional AI assistant to a fully-fledged AI steward. This upgrade centers on four essential stewardship pillars—computer, file, browser, and software management—aimed at helping users oversee their personal devices and digital possessions.

Unlike typical agents focused on delivering office-oriented tasks, Marvis now prioritizes continuous administration of personal hardware and digital files. While document creation and presentation building remain within its scope, the core investment lies in managing user devices along with the files, applications, and browser services they contain.

The newly enhanced sidebar introduces a Steward Team entry point, showcasing the capabilities and use cases of all four stewards, so users can readily identify whom to consult for specific issues. The computer steward delivers intelligent cleanup, fault resolution, setting adjustments, hardware diagnostics, and performance enhancement, drawing on a repair expertise repository developed by Tencent's enterprise IT division, and supports over 100 quick commands. According to the development team, the computer steward achieves an approximate 92% task completion rate.

In the file stewardship domain, a brand-new local knowledge base feature enables autonomous discovery, creation, updates, and collaborative knowledge management. Marvis leverages its proprietary knowledge base indexing capability to proactively monitor local and cloud-based files, automatically comprehending, tagging, and clustering them into organized knowledge repositories. The system currently integrates with Tencent Docs, with imminent support for WeCom documents, and prompts users to add newly acquired materials to their knowledge base, fostering continuous personal knowledge accumulation.

The software steward operates as an application and gaming assistant, facilitating installation, updates, and management of PC software, games, and Android applications compatible with desktop environments. By late October, Marvis will open up user-customized steward capabilities, allowing individuals to describe their desired steward in natural language and seamlessly configure skills, tools, and MCP within the platform, with full availability slated for November.

Cai Jiantao, who heads Tencent's App Store cross-device operations and Marvis, noted that AI is driving a shift from app distribution to direct service fulfillment—as AI capabilities progress, users can express needs and have AI connect them to specialized services for execution. The selection of a steward positioning for Marvis stems both from user habits and the team's hardware-centric product trajectory, aiming to make device usage more intuitive for everyday people.

On the hardware ecosystem front, Marvis has disclosed multiple collaboration initiatives: for PCs, an OEM version of Marvis is being introduced, integrating deeply with original equipment manufacturers through pre-installation and plugin partnerships. At the chip level, partnerships with Intel and Qualcomm are underway, leveraging frameworks like Intel OpenVINO for end-side performance optimization. In the domestic technology sector, customized editions for Kylin and Unity operating systems are on the horizon, delivering application and device management capabilities tailored to government and enterprise audiences.
