Expensify, a provider of expense management software, has announced the expansion of its Concierge AI with several new features. These enhancements allow users to perform account setup, automate expense management, and analyze spending through natural language, further broadening the application of AI in financial workflows.
The core of this upgrade involves transforming AI from a mere assistant into an active executor of processes. New functionalities include conversational analytics, enabling users to query spending by employee, category, merchant, workspace, or reporting period using everyday language and receive visual charts and explanations. It also features chat-based expense management for creating, editing, categorizing, tagging, submitting, approving, and rejecting expenses and reports via natural language. Workspace management allows for configuring policies, creating rules, troubleshooting account issues, and updating settings through dialogue. Cross-channel access enables interaction with Concierge AI via email, SMS, or the Expensify app. Additionally, a beta for autonomous workflow agents lets users define custom instructions for AI agents to independently execute routine expense tasks while maintaining a full audit trail.
David Barrett, Founder and CEO of Expensify, stated that AI should eliminate work, not create another interface to learn. He noted that with Concierge AI, clients can simply ask questions or make requests in plain language, whether by replying to an email, sending a text, or using the app. Concierge can understand the request, complete the task, explain the actions taken, and continuously improve itself.
This expansion builds upon Expensify's ongoing investments in AI. In early June, the company launched the Expensify MCP integration, allowing users to query expense data and approval status through natural language with AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor, eliminating the need for CSV exports or scripting. Earlier in May, the company released over 30 product improvements covering areas such as the home page, insights dashboard, Concierge, and expense automation.
Expensify currently serves approximately 15 million members globally, with offerings in expense management, corporate cards, and travel services. The new features are available for immediate use as of July 1st.
