Thiel-Backed Crypto Hoarder ETHZilla Sells Tokens to Pay Debt
ETHZilla Corp., a cryptocurrency accumulator backed by billionaire Peter Thiel, appears to be shifting focus as investors abandon what was briefly one of the stock market’s hottest trades.
Just four months after the former 180 Life Sciences Corp. rebranded itself as a digital asset treasury company centered on buying Ether - the second largest cryptocurrency after Bitcoin - it sold $74.5 million worth of the tokens to pay down debt, according to a filing Friday with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Trump Media Invests $40M in Bitcoin as Incoming CFTC Chair Signals Crypto Clarity Act Push in January
CFTC Chairman Michael Selig said Congress is poised to advance crypto market structure legislation. His comments came as Trump Media & Technology Group disclosed a $40 million Bitcoin purchase. The company added the assets to its corporate balance sheet.
In an X post, analytical platform Lookonchain revealed that Trump Media bought 451 Bitcoin for approximately $40.3 million. The deal bumped the company’s total holdings up to 11,542 BTC, worth more than $1 billion.
Coinbase Acquires The Clearing Company in Prediction Market Push
Coinbase Global Inc. announced Monday that it will acquire a derivatives clearinghouse, The Clearing Company, to boost its entry into the growing prediction markets business.
The crypto trading platform said the acquisition would help it expand on its ambitions to become “the Everything Exchange.” It comes just days after Coinbase began rolling out prediction markets and equities trading.
Bitcoin Spot ETF Flow
The overall net outflow of the US Bitcoin spot ETF on Monday was $148.19 million. The total net asset value of Bitcoin spot ETFs is $114.84 billion, and the ETF net asset ratio (market value compared to total Bitcoin market value) is 6.52%.
The Bitcoin spot ETF with the highest net outflow on Dec. 22 was Bitwise Bitcoin ETF , with a net outflow of $34.96 million.
