Tesla Reportedly Plans $2.9 Billion Purchase of Solar Manufacturing Equipment from China

According to sources, Tesla is seeking to procure solar manufacturing equipment totaling $2.9 billion (20 billion yuan) from Chinese suppliers, including Suzhou Maxwell Technologies Co.,Ltd. (300751.SZ), to support CEO Elon Musk's goal of establishing 100GW of solar manufacturing capacity in the United States.

Sources indicated that Suzhou Maxwell Technologies Co.,Ltd., a leading manufacturer of solar cell screen printing production lines, is one of the primary potential suppliers for Tesla's procurement project. Other potential suppliers include Jiangsu Leadmicro Nano-Equipment Technology Co., Ltd. and Laplace.

The equipment Tesla plans to purchase includes solar cell screen printing production lines, among other items. Sources stated that Chinese suppliers have been requested to ship the equipment to the United States by this autumn, with two sources adding that the equipment will be sent to Texas. The solar manufacturing capacity Musk plans to build will primarily be for Tesla's own use, with a portion also allocated to power satellites for SpaceX.
