During the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, three key national trunk highways—the border highway G219, the northern border highway G331, and the coastal highway G228—will be fully connected, forming a major transportation corridor encircling China's border and coastal regions. The 1,240-kilometer Jilin section of G331 winds between the Changbai Mountains and the Yalu River. By September 2025, the G331 Border Opening Tourism Corridor is scheduled to be fully operational. In Linjiang's Weishe Village, which once possessed pristine landscapes but saw few visitors, the completion of G331 has transformed it into a popular destination, cumulatively hosting 150,000 tourists and generating over 1.5 million yuan in additional revenue for the village.
In Tumen's Bailong Village, within just three months of the road opening, nearly 20,000 self-driving tourists visited, and the village's collective income surpassed 1.03 million yuan in 2025.
Hunchun's Fangchuan Scenic Area, leveraging its unique "view of three countries" geographical feature, welcomed 480,000 visitors from January to May this year.
The Changbai Mountain Yunding Market comes alive with brilliant lights on summer nights, while the Enduli Leisure Resort and Business Community offers integrated solutions for dining, accommodation, cultural creativity, performances, and leisure, establishing itself as a new landmark for Jilin's nighttime economy.
A number of key border tourism villages are transitioning from being mere "stopovers" to becoming "destinations." The border is no longer a "distant periphery" but a "must-visit" item on the travel itineraries of younger generations.
Viewing Jilin from a national perspective, the G331 Jilin section represents a pioneering "model segment" in the eastern part of the "Golden Outer Ring." While national planning for full connectivity continues, Jilin has already utilized this corridor to link four distinctive resources: ecology, ethnic culture, historical heritage, and border landscapes.
