What is China Merchants Bank's Strongest Competitive Edge? Chairman Miao Jianmin: "Customer-Centricity" Embedded in Corporate Culture

Deep News03-30

On March 20, China Merchants Bank held its 2025 annual results presentation. Chairman Miao Jianmin stated that market orientation and professionalism are the bank's foundational traits, which will not be compromised by factors such as compensation reforms. He emphasized, "I believe China Merchants Bank has internalized professionalism, market orientation, and customer-centricity into its corporate culture. This, in my view, is our most significant competitive advantage."

Miao further elaborated that while many analysts, external clients, and market investors have previously identified low-cost liabilities or retail banking as the bank's key strengths, the fundamental factor is the deep integration of a customer-centric approach into the corporate culture. He noted, "Because we prioritize our customers, their experience with us is excellent. Many clients choose to open accounts and deposit funds with China Merchants Bank not merely for interest earnings, but to conduct financial transactions. As a result, the bank maintains the lowest deposit costs in the industry, with one of the highest proportions of demand deposits."

Miao stressed that the board's strategy of "upholding integrity while fostering innovation, deepening transformation, and accelerating the pace of modernization" will enable China Merchants Bank to consistently outperform the market and surpass peers, even during industry downturns.
