Liu Qingfeng Declares Classical Computing Power Unsustainable, Names Quantum Computing as Next Decade's Path

On the morning of April 27, Quantum Intelligence & Creation (量智开物), a joint venture established by iFlytek and Liangyi Wanxiang, was officially unveiled. The company introduced two breakthrough achievements: the "Zhuifeng" large-scale atomic fast rearrangement algorithm and the "Bian Que" quantum error correction decoder. This marked the first public appearance of Quantum Intelligence & Creation since its establishment and represents a systematic presentation of iFlytek's strategic layout in the "AI + Quantum" direction.

Liu Qingfeng, Chairman of iFlytek and initiator of Quantum Intelligence & Creation, stated in his speech that continuing to extrapolate along the current classical computing framework will lead to computational power and energy consumption becoming unsustainable "ceilings." He emphasized that the next decade necessitates finding a new path, which is quantum computing. Citing the "Jiuzhang 3.0" 255-photon prototype as an example, Liu highlighted that the speed gap between classical and quantum computing has reached an order of magnitude of "one hundred quadrillion times." He noted that "AI for Quantum" and "Quantum for AI" are becoming global focal points, and China's independent and controllable AI industry development must plan ahead on this new track.

Liu Qingfeng specifically stressed that this endeavor cannot be achieved by AI alone or by quantum physics alone; it requires truly integrating quantum physics theorists, quantum algorithm scientists, and artificial intelligence experts into a unified force. He mentioned that iFlytek, the top-tier Tsinghua quantum computing team led by Professor Zhai Hui, and Liangyi Wanxiang share a highly aligned belief in advancing fundamental science while ensuring practical application. Based on this mutual trust, the partnership has been upgraded from a strategic collaboration to a "family" unit, which is the origin of "Quantum Intelligence & Creation."

In their addresses, Academician Duan Wenhui, President of the Institute for Advanced Study at Tsinghua University, and Chang Kai, Executive President of the Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Sciences, stated that the integration of quantum and intelligence has progressed from an academic foresight to a strategic national imperative. They expressed commitment to promoting the cultivation of interdisciplinary talent, pioneering research in quantum-intelligence integration, and fostering industry-university-research collaboration to contribute to breakthroughs in this field for China.
