During a hearing before the Senate Finance Committee regarding the Treasury Department's annual budget request, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen addressed the state of the economy. She stated, "Aside from inflation—which I believe will be a short-term fluctuation—the economic data is very strong."

Secretary Yellen further elaborated, "The employment data is very strong, and the ISM manufacturing index is very strong."
