AT&T has announced a significant overhaul of its home fiber broadband offerings, set to take effect from June 7, introducing four simplified speed tiers and substantial discounts for customers who bundle wireless and broadband services, in response to intensifying market competition.
The restructuring consolidates fiber plans into four speed options: 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1 Gigabit, and 5 Gigabit. The new entry-level 300 Mbps plan offers triple the speed of the previous base tier at no additional cost, effectively delivering faster speeds without a price hike. Customers who bundle AT&T wireless and home broadband services will see their monthly fiber costs starting as low as $35.
AT&T Inc stated that eligible bundled customers could save up to $420 annually. This saving is based on a $25 monthly discount for 5 Gigabit plan subscribers, plus an additional $10 discount for enrolling in automatic payments and paperless billing, though this promotional offer is only available in select regions.
Regarding service guarantees, bundled users will receive the "ActiveArmorSM Internet Security" feature at no extra charge. This service provides advanced security protection for connected devices. Additionally, the 5 Gigabit plan will include the All-Fi Pro service package, offering whole-home Wi-Fi coverage, enhanced security, and device upgrade services.
Jenifer Robertson, Executive Vice President and General Manager of AT&T Consumer, commented, "We are committed to providing our customers with simple, valuable plans backed by a high-performance network."
This plan revision coincides with AT&T's aggressive push for its fiber strategy. The company aims to cover over 40 million fiber locations by 2026 and reach 60 million by 2027. The bundling strategy is already showing results, with approximately 45% of premium home internet customers also subscribing to AT&T's wireless service, marking the company's fastest annual convergence growth rate on record.
Analysts note that by simplifying pricing and strengthening service bundles, AT&T aims to reduce customer churn and identify new growth drivers in an increasingly saturated wireless market.
