At the 20th China International New Energy Forum, hosted by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce's New Energy Chamber on September 17, Longi Green Energy Technology Co.,Ltd. Chairman Zhong Baoshen delivered a keynote address. He noted that the industry and government are gradually returning to rationality, with supply chain pricing undergoing continuous adjustment, ushering in a phase of structural optimization, systematic clearing, and high-quality consolidation. Companies are feeling operational pressure, and industry divergence is intensifying.
Zhong highlighted that the new energy sector has entered a brand-new development stage defined by its largest scale, most complex challenges, and broadest opportunities. Over the long term, the global energy transition is accelerating, while rapid growth in digital economy and artificial intelligence industries generates massive demand for green electricity. The fundamental trajectory of long-cycle, high-growth development for new energy remains unchanged, and short-term industry adjustments are an inevitable part of iterative upgrades, creating fresh opportunities for efficiency gains, innovation breakthroughs, and high-quality advancement.
In expanding green energy applications, Zhong observed that China's new energy is transitioning from a supplementary power source to a primary power source, and from the generation side to the user side, unlocking vast application potential. He emphasized three key "expansions": First, expanding space by moving new energy from point-based to area-based deployment, leveraging large-scale bases to extend centralized development capacity while promoting distributed new energy across industrial parks, urban buildings, and rural courtyards, integrating green power into every facet of production and daily life.
Second, expanding methods by shifting new energy from electricity to broader energy forms, achieving coordinated synergy among electricity, heat, hydrogen, and gas. This enables penetration in hard-to-abate areas such as industrial decarbonization, clean heating, and green fuels, embedding green energy into more segments of economic and social activity. Third, expanding mechanisms to make the value of new energy explicit. Zhong urged accelerating improvements to green power and green certificate trading systems, allowing environmental and social value to smoothly convert into economic value, thereby mobilizing diverse market participants to actively develop and utilize new energy and jointly drive the continued expansion of green energy adoption.
"An industry can lack scale but cannot lack technology; it can endure downturns but cannot lose innovation," Zhong stated. He emphasized that China's new energy industry has historically navigated cycles through innovation alone. Today, scenarios are increasingly driving innovation in reverse—wherever scenarios exist, the direction for innovation follows.
