NASA Satellite Data Reveals Fire at Key Russian Black Sea Oil Terminal

Deep News16:20

Satellite imagery from NASA indicates that a significant Russian oil terminal on the Black Sea caught fire following an overnight drone attack. Images from NASA's Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) on Monday showed new fires in the port area of Novorossiysk, where the Sheskharis terminal, operated by Russian state-owned pipeline company Transneft, is located. The state-owned pipeline operator Transneft did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the current situation at the Sheskharis facility. Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratiev stated in a declaration that eight buildings were damaged during the overnight drone assault on the port city of Novorossiysk. He mentioned that drone debris was found near several industrial facilities but did not provide further details. Novorossiysk is Russia's largest port on the Black Sea and houses multiple export terminals for commodities and general cargo. A Ukrainian drone attack in early March had previously caused a temporary suspension of oil loadings at the port.
