Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) announced on April 21 the appointment of Lau Cho Ming as Managing Director and Head of Bond Market Development. He will lead the newly established Bond Market Development team, which will cover both primary and secondary market development for bond businesses, aiding HKEX in its continued expansion of its Fixed Income and Currencies (FIC) operations.
Lau Cho Ming's primary market responsibilities will include strengthening bond issuance and communication with issuers. His secondary market development focus will involve enhancing bond market liquidity and infrastructure. He will report to HKEX's Head of Fixed Income and Currency Product Development, Fan Wenchao.
The Head of Markets at HKEX stated that developing a multi-asset class ecosystem is a key strategic priority for the group. HKEX is actively developing its Fixed Income and Currencies business to consolidate Hong Kong's position as a leading international bond financing hub. The addition of Lau Cho Ming will further strengthen the FIC team, which will work with partners and various market participants to accelerate the development of Hong Kong's bond and fixed income markets.
According to available information, Lau Cho Ming possesses over 25 years of capital markets experience. Prior to joining HKEX, he served as Managing Director and Head of Debt Capital Markets at BOCI. He has an outstanding track record in global bond issuance, investor relations, and market development. He also previously served as a member of the Bond Advisory Working Group convened by the Fixed Income and Currencies Task Force jointly led by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Furthermore, he has held positions at Ernst & Young, Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, and Dresdner Kleinwort Benson. Lau Cho Ming holds a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
