Chengdu's Old Factory Transforms into Trendy National Day Spot as Young People Flock to Eastern Suburb Memory

In 1958, the Chengdu State-Owned Hongguang Electronic Tube Factory was established, and it once produced New China's first mass-produced black-and-white picture tube and its first color picture tube.

Today, the former factory site has a new name: "Eastern Suburb Memory." Last year alone, more than 18 million visits were recorded here, with young people making up over 80% of the total.

During this holiday, Eastern Suburb Memory has continued to draw large crowds: a digital light and shadow art festival, a trendy toy street, and a VR cinema have all arrived on the scene.

The picture tube production workshop has been turned into a digital light and shadow art museum, the mechanical maintenance workshop has become a snack street, and a panoramic immersive ritual and music cultural themed dining show has been fully booked throughout the holiday period.

The park has innovatively designed an evaluation system in which social benefits account for 80% and economic benefits account for 20%. Old factory buildings can give rise to new business formats, but their skeleton and appearance must not change.

Our parents' generation once manufactured picture tubes here, lighting up screens in countless households; now we need to create cultural experiences here, allowing industrial heritage to illuminate more people's spiritual lives.
