Chongqing Water Group Generates Approximately 180,000 kWh Daily via Solar, Adding Green Power for Peak Summer Supply

Amid a sustained period of hot and sunny weather in Chongqing, electricity demand has surged significantly.

Chongqing Water Group Co.,Ltd. has leveraged unused spaces and building rooftops across its water treatment plants to install photovoltaic panels on a large, standardized scale.

The company currently generates approximately 180,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per day, achieving dual improvements in energy conservation, cost reduction, stable production, and supply security.

At the Xindegan Water Plant in Jiangjin District, vast arrays of solar panels cover the factory roofs, continuously converting sunlight into clean electricity under the summer sun.

During the current peak period for water supply under high temperatures, the plant's photovoltaic generation meets over 45% of its daily electricity needs, effectively alleviating the strain on the power grid for water production.

The efficient and stable power generation is supported by an intelligent, multi-dimensional operation and maintenance system.

The company has established an integrated, "unmanned" monitoring platform that enables centralized access, unified dispatch, and intelligent management of photovoltaic systems across all its facilities.

In the dispatch center, a large electronic screen displays real-time core data such as power generation, carbon emission reductions, equipment operating temperatures, and real-time operational power.

This allows staff to accurately monitor equipment status, quickly pinpoint abnormalities, troubleshoot potential failures, and initiate maintenance promptly.

Complementing ground-level monitoring, aerial inspections are also conducted.

The company utilizes drones for aerial patrols to comprehensively scan for and identify hidden equipment issues, ensuring efficient and timely operational responses for the photovoltaic systems even under high-temperature, high-load conditions, thereby guaranteeing safe and stable equipment operation.

The first phase of the company's "water services + photovoltaics" distributed solar power generation project covers 5 water plants and 10 wastewater treatment plants.

Its annual power generation capacity is projected to reach 25.21 million kilowatt-hours, equivalent to saving approximately 10,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 13,700 tons annually, delivering significant ecological and economic benefits.

A company representative stated that the project operates on a "self-generation for self-use, surplus electricity to the grid" model.

While prioritizing the power needs for water production at its plants, any surplus clean electricity is fed into the municipal grid.

This provides additional clean energy support for the city's power supply during peak summer demand, aiding in the optimization and upgrading of the regional energy structure.
