Hyundai Motor Group announced on Tuesday its intention to collaborate with government bodies to establish a nationwide certification for plug-and-charge (PnC) technology, aiming to facilitate broader adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).
The company stated that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea's Ministry of Environment, specifically its climate, energy, and environment division, along with the Korea Environment Corporation. This agreement is focused on creating a national certification system for EV PnC services.
PnC is an internationally standardized technology that automates user authentication, charging initiation, and payment processing simply by plugging in the charging cable.
Unlike conventional EV charging services, which often require a membership card or credit card for user verification, PnC utilizes encrypted authentication between the vehicle and the charging station, offering a more secure and convenient charging experience.
Under the terms of the agreement, Hyundai Motor Group will transfer its PnC certification technology and the associated certification authority to the government. This step is expected to aid in the widespread deployment of this technology across South Korea's EV charging station network.
