Hong Kong-listed The United Laboratories International Holdings Limited (UNITED LAB) has obtained Investigational New Drug (IND) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its self-developed UBT48128 Tablets, a small-molecule glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. The approvals cover two indications—overweight or obesity (IND 182060) and type 2 diabetes (IND 182061).
Preclinical studies in multiple animal models showed that UBT48128 significantly lowered body weight and blood-glucose levels and delivered weight-loss efficacy exceeding that of currently marketed GLP-1 products, according to the company. The compound promotes insulin secretion while regulating appetite and energy metabolism, supporting its potential therapeutic profile in chronic metabolic diseases.
UBT48128 was developed by The United Bio-Technology (Hengqin) Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of UNITED LAB. The group stated that advancing this program aligns with its strategy to expand its biopharmaceutical pipeline focused on chronic disease treatments, aiming to enhance long-term competitiveness and shareholder value.
