Tencent Unveils TenPayGo, Its First Inbound Payment App for Overseas Travelers

At a payment services launch event held in Shenzhen on the afternoon of September 24, Tencent, together with partners including ICBC Shenzhen Branch and Shenzhen Tong, kicked off the 2026 "Travel Smart in China" initiative to enhance entry payment convenience for international visitors ahead of the APEC China year. The company outlined three strategic priorities: upgrading global payment partnerships, advancing AI and fintech innovation, and building a multi-scenario service ecosystem in Shenzhen.

Under the global payment cooperation pillar, Tencent said it will continue leveraging its TenPay Global cross-border payment platform and collaboration with UnionPay International to deliver smooth payment experiences for overseas travelers entering China. Additionally, Tencent plans to expand its ecosystem partnerships by deepening cross-border cooperation with NetsUnion, using a unified cross-border QR code gateway to connect more overseas wallets, thereby creating a more open and accessible cross-border payment service system.

In the area of AI and fintech innovation, WeChat Pay, building on its existing global network developed through "foreign card binding" and "overseas wallet usage," is rolling out TenPayGo, the company's first inbound payment application designed specifically for international users. The app supports multiple payment methods in one go, including international bank cards, Apple Pay, and overseas wallets, allowing seamless transactions across tens of millions of WeChat Pay merchant locations in China. The service also extends beyond payments to cover city transportation, departure tax refunds, and other visitor-friendly scenarios, with partners such as Shenzhen Tong and ICBC Shenzhen Branch enriching the "Travel Smart in China" experience.

Regarding the construction of Shenzhen's multi-scenario service system, Tencent will join forces with financial institutions, public transit payment platforms, and key commercial districts within the local ecosystem to ensure payment convenience reaches overseas guests in more situations upon their arrival in Shenzhen.
