Teva Pharmaceutical shares surged 6.47% intraday on Wednesday, extending gains from pre-market trading after the company released second-quarter results that topped revenue expectations and included a raised annual sales forecast.
The drugmaker reported quarterly revenue of $4.14 billion, exceeding the analyst consensus of $3.97 billion to $4.05 billion, driven by a 43% jump in sales from its three key brand-name products to $1 billion. Teva lifted its full-year sales guidance to a range of $16.5 billion to $16.85 billion, up from the prior $16.4 billion to $16.8 billion, and maintained its adjusted earnings per share outlook of $1.91 to $2.11.
While adjusted EPS came in at just $0.02, far below the $0.25 estimate due partly to acquisition-related charges, the top-line strength and improved guidance appeared to dominate investor sentiment. The market’s positive reaction suggests confidence in Teva’s ongoing pivot toward higher-growth brand-name therapies, even as generic drug sales faced headwinds.
