Elon Musk Counters Ryanair's Decision Against Installing Starlink on Aircraft

Deep News01-15

Electric vehicle analyst Sawyer Merritt shared a post on X stating that Ryanair Holdings PLC has indicated it will not install Starlink systems on its aircraft. The airline cited significant sensitivity to fuel costs due to drag and the short duration of its flights as the primary reasons. The company stated, "This would lead to a 2% increase in fuel consumption due to the aircraft's weight and drag. We do not believe passengers would be willing to pay for Wi-Fi on a typical one-hour flight."

Elon Musk responded, saying, "The information he received is incorrect. I doubt they can even accurately measure the difference in fuel consumption, especially for a one-hour flight, as the drag increase is almost zero during the ascent phase due to the high angle of attack."

"Furthermore, this would actually improve efficiency compared to most other connectivity solutions."
