Wuhan kicked off its "New Home of the Yangtze · Vibrant Wuhan" Golden Autumn Consumption Season on September 17, a vibrant three-month initiative packed with a staggering 279 cultural and tourism activities. Officials announced the program at a press conference, unveiling a wide range of major attractions and events designed to draw visitors from across the country.
Highlights of the season include a spectacular firework display over the Yangtze River for National Day, the grand reopening of the Tortoise Mountain TV Tower to the public for the first time in 18 years, the hosting of five major festivals, and the launch of the city's first electronic travel passport.
Central to the festivities are four signature carnivals. The "Splendid Light Glowing Over Wuhan" Yangtze Night Tour Carnival will feature the "Meet the Yangtze Fireworks" series during the National Day holiday, complete with a dazzling river fireworks show and a themed light display. This carnival will also debut new products like the "Yangtze River Gallery Scenic Cruise" for a memorable river journey.
The "Youthful Energy Gathering in Wuhan" Auto & Trend Carnival will link up with major brands such as Xiaomi, Wenjie (AITO), NIO, and Voyah to host a variety of activities including "Trendy Assembly in Wuhan," "Trendy Play in Wuhan," and "Trendy Tours in Wuhan." This event is set to create an innovative "Culture & Tourism + Automotive" consumer experience.
The "Artistic Essence Converging in Wuhan" Arts & Culture Carnival will be a haven for enthusiasts, featuring prestigious events like the China Peking Opera Festival, the Wuhan Biennale, the Qintai Music Festival, and the Wuhan International Acrobatics Art Festival. Adding to the excitement, the innovative "Wuhan City Music New Talent Show" will bring flash mob performances by groups like the Wuhan Song & Dance Theatre and the Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra to iconic city spots including Metro Line 12 and the Zhonghua Road City Balcony on Wuchang Riverside. Fans can also look forward to concerts by stars such as A-Lin, Rainie Yang, Li Yugang, and Power Station, alongside performances from renowned Chinese and international artists. The municipal art troupes will premiere new productions like the folk musical "White Clouds and Yellow Cranes are Our Home" and the Peking Opera "Mandarin Ducks Sword," with museums also curating fresh themed exhibitions.
Finally, the "Scenic Autumn Splendor in Wuhan" Golden Autumn Tour Carnival focuses on experiencing autumn scenery, savoring local cuisine, watching the Wuhan Open tennis tournament, and touring the city. This includes themed events across various districts, such as the "Smart Tour of the Auto Valley" industrial tourism experience, the "Charming Encounter in Hanyang" event, the "Riverside Music Season" in Qiaokou, the "Mulan Tour" consumption season in Huangpi, and the "Golden Autumn Flower & Fire Festival" at the Wuhan Flower Expo in Caidian.
Beyond the carnivals, the city is also enhancing its tourism offerings. The iconic Tortoise Mountain TV Tower will be fully developed and opened to the public. Museums like the Hubei Provincial Museum and the Wuhan Museum will extend their opening hours. New tourism routes are being introduced, including university tours featuring Wuhan University and Central China Normal University; a tech tour of the Optics Valley showcasing HGTECH (Huagong Laser) and the Optics Valley Aerial Tram; an industrial tour of the Auto Valley with Xiaomi and Voyah; and a food industry tour featuring Zhou Hei Ya and Royal Crown Bakery in the airport economic zone. The city will also launch the immersive smart art cruise ship "Yangtze Star" and the new light and shadow show "Rhyme of the Yangtze · Legend of the Star."
Mark your calendars for the star events: The 11th China Peking Opera Festival, running from October 15 to November 5, will present 48 outstanding performances and selected opera excerpts, alongside themed markets. The 2026 Wuhan Biennale, opening on October 1, will showcase over 580 works from more than 400 artists across 20 countries. The 15th Qintai Music Festival, scheduled from October 16 to November 13, will feature concerts, university collaborations, mass choirs, and music salons, integrating music with tourism. The 16th Wuhan International Acrobatics Art Festival, from October 23 to 26, will present 20 acrobatic programs from 15 countries, promising a high-level showcase of the art form.
