Golden Blossoms Herald Rural Prosperity Through Specialty Agriculture

Deep News05:41

Spring paints the mountains with vibrant hues as golden waves ripple across the landscape. Currently, thousands of acres of forsythia flowers are in full bloom in Wangshi'ao Subdistrict, Yintai District, with clusters of golden yellow adorning the branches and covering the hillsides in layers, creating a lively and beautiful spring scene in the countryside. This dazzling sea of golden blossoms not only enhances the rural ecology but has also become a "golden bank" for increasing local incomes, using the specialty Chinese herbal medicine industry as a brush to vividly illustrate rural revitalization.

During the spring planting season, agricultural activities are in full swing. At the forsythia cutting and seedling base in Wangshi'ao Village, a scene of bustling labor unfolds. Villagers are seizing the critical springtime for seedling cultivation, bending over and working together in a coordinated manner. They skillfully dip neatly trimmed forsythia branches into rooting agents and insert them methodically into plastic-covered soil. Each step is performed with care and precision, laying a solid foundation for stable and high yields in the forsythia industry.

"Right now is the key time for planting forsythia seedlings. My main tasks are dipping the branches in rooting agent and sealing them. Working close to home is both easy and convenient. I can earn 80 yuan a day, and my annual income is quite stable," said Xiao Chengyun, a villager from Wangshi'ao Village, as he worked cheerfully.

Relying on the village collective economy's focus on the specialty forsythia industry, an increasing number of local villagers have bid farewell to the hardship of leaving home for migrant work and have instead found employment nearby. Job opportunities span the entire forsythia industry chain throughout the year, from spring seedling cultivation, field planting, and branch pruning to daily watering, weeding, autumn harvesting, and drying processing. This ensures "work every season and income all year round." Currently, over 20 villagers are employed long-term at the industrial base, each able to stably increase their annual income by six to seven thousand yuan. This allows them to care for their families and manage their own farm work while enjoying a stable and comfortable life at home.

"There's plenty of work at the forsythia base—raising seedlings, planting trees, pruning, watering, weeding. It gets even busier during the harvesting and drying season, with work lasting until July or August. More than twenty of us work here, earning about six to seven thousand yuan a year. We can still manage our own farm work without leaving home, which is much better than working away," said villager Li Zhumin, her face beaming with a happy smile as she spoke about the benefits the industry has brought.

The transformation of the small forsythia blossom into a "prosperity flower" that supports a major rural revitalization industry is attributed to Wangshi'ao Subdistrict's strategic planning based on local resources and strong support from technological empowerment. Yintai District has a deep tradition of Chinese herbal medicine cultivation. Wangshi'ao Subdistrict has fully leveraged this advantage by proactively collaborating with Shaanxi University of Science and Technology for technical support, pioneering a new development path for the specialty industry driven by both "technology and resources."

Locally, a 1,200-mu standardized forsythia planting base has been established according to local conditions, along with a professional breeding center capable of producing over 200,000 seedlings annually. With support from university technology, they have independently cultivated the high-quality "Tongqiao No. 1" forsythia variety, known for its strong adaptability, high yield, and superior quality, completely transforming the previous situation of scattered planting and inconsistent quality. Simultaneously, efforts are focused on building a complete industrial chain from breeding and planting to primary and deep processing, steadily advancing the Chinese herbal medicine industry towards scale, standardization, and branding, thereby fully unleashing the industrial value of the humble forsythia.

"In 2025, our village's total income from the forsythia industry chain approached 200,000 yuan. This achievement is thanks to the hard work of all villagers in planting, processing, and marketing forsythia," said Cheng Lu, Party Secretary of Wangshi'ao Village, proudly pointing to the thriving "Tongqiao No. 1" seedlings cultivated by the village. Speaking about future development, he expressed full confidence: "Next, we will fully utilize land resources by intercropping shallow-rooted, annual medicinal herbs under the forsythia trees to achieve multiple harvests from the same land and improve quality and efficiency. We will continue to refine, expand, and strengthen the forsythia industry to further grow the village collective economy and increase乡亲们' incomes, working together to make life in Wangshi'ao more prosperous!"

Enhancing industrial quality and efficiency involves deep integration of different business formats. Centered on Wangshi'ao Village, Wangshi'ao Subdistrict is driving coordinated development in three surrounding villages, meticulously creating a thousand-mu forsythia flower sea landscape garden. This integrates the Chinese herbal medicine planting industry with health tourism, ecological sightseeing, and e-commerce, turning former fields into popular tourist spots. It achieves "flower seas to enjoy in spring and a reliable industry all year round," promoting both ecological and economic benefits and building a new pattern of rural revitalization through the integration of agriculture, culture, and tourism.

A relevant official from the Wangshi'ao Subdistrict Office stated that下一步, the subdistrict will firmly grasp project construction as the core focus, continuously address shortcomings in industrial infrastructure, comprehensively strengthen the industrial foundation, continuously accumulate new momentum for economic development, and promote high-quality economic and social development in the jurisdiction through solid work and tangible results. Keeping a close eye on the goal of developing the village collective economy, efforts will ensure that Wangshi'ao Village's collective economic income stably exceeds 1 million yuan, continuously consolidating and enhancing the achievements of being a key village in the municipal "Ten Million Project" and strengthening the industrial foundation for rural revitalization. Meanwhile, focusing on the leading forsythia specialty industry, they will expand planting scale, extend the industrial chain, enhance comprehensive benefits, and improve the industrial benefit linkage mechanism. Prosperous industries will drive comprehensive rural revitalization, allowing the dividends of industrial development to benefit the masses more broadly and fairly, striving to write a new chapter for rural revitalization in Wangshi'ao Subdistrict.

Where golden flowers bloom, spring scenery is splendid; where industries thrive, the people prosper. Using the small forsythia as a medium, Yintai District has embarked on a path of rural revitalization characterized by ecological beauty, industrial prosperity, and people's wealth, making群众' lives as flourishing as the blooming forsythia flowers.
