Wilmar outlines fire-prevention measures amid Indonesia haze concerns

Wilmar International Limited on Oct, 16 2026 said it has maintained a “No Burning Policy” across all its plantations and suppliers since 2006 and has not undertaken any new oil-palm planting on its Indonesian estates since 2013.

The agribusiness group issued the statement in response to recent reports linking Indonesian forest and peatland fires to transboundary haze affecting Malaysia and Singapore.

Wilmar detailed its fire-prevention and management framework, which includes 24/7 satellite hotspot monitoring, on-site firefighting teams with dedicated equipment, and collaboration with local communities and authorities through initiatives such as the Fire Free Alliance.

The company acknowledged that some fires had entered small areas of its Indonesian concessions during the current El Niño-related dry spell but said field checks showed the blazes originated outside its estates or on community-farmed land. All incidents were contained and extinguished quickly, it added.

Wilmar said it will continue to monitor the situation and work with governments, communities and industry partners to curb fires across the wider landscape.
