National Minimum Wage Standards (as of October 1, 2026)
Regarding the monthly minimum wage standard, Shanghai ranks first nationwide with a standard of 2,740 yuan. Regarding the hourly minimum wage standard, Beijing ranks first nationwide with a standard of 27.7 yuan.

Shantou's minimum wage standard has been raised effective September 1, 2026. The specific wage standards are as follows: Monthly minimum wage standard: 2,040 yuan per month. Part-time hourly minimum wage standard: 20.2 yuan per hour.

About Minimum Wage
01 What forms do minimum wage standards take? Minimum wage standards generally take the form of a monthly minimum wage standard and an hourly minimum wage standard. The monthly minimum wage standard applies to full-time employed workers; the hourly minimum wage standard applies to part-time employed workers.
02 Does the minimum wage include overtime pay? No. According to Article 12 of the Provisions on Minimum Wage: When a worker provides normal labor, the wages paid by the employer to the worker, after excluding the following items, shall not be lower than the local minimum wage standard: 1. Wages for extended working hours; 2. Allowances for special working environments and conditions such as middle shifts, night shifts, high temperatures, low temperatures, underground work, and toxic or harmful conditions; 3. Welfare benefits for workers as stipulated by laws, regulations, and national provisions.
03 Does piece-rate wage work have a minimum wage? Yes. According to Article 12 of the Provisions on Minimum Wage: For employers that implement wage forms such as piece-rate wages or commission wages, on the basis of a scientific and reasonable labor quota, the wages paid to workers shall not be lower than the corresponding minimum wage standard. If a worker fails to provide normal labor during statutory working hours or during the working hours agreed upon in a legally signed labor contract for reasons attributable to the worker themselves, this provision does not apply. It should be noted that when workers lawfully enjoy paid annual leave, home leave, marriage and funeral leave, maternity (childbirth) leave, sterilization surgery leave, and other leave periods stipulated by the state, as well as when they lawfully participate in social activities during statutory working hours, they are deemed to have provided normal labor.
