Residents in Shunyi District may have noticed new "Green Convenience Recycling Devices" appearing in their neighborhoods. These units accept four categories of low-value recyclables—paper, metal, plastic, and fabric—and provide instant cash returns. This initiative is part of the district's smart recycling bin installation project, which has now extended its convenient services to 314 communities across 21 towns and sub-districts. All 413 smart recycling bins are now operational, allowing residents to turn their recyclables into value without leaving their residential compounds.
Wang Qingping, a resident of Yulong North Community in Guangming Sub-district, shared her experience: "I heard from neighbors that a smart recycling bin was installed in our community, and today was my first time using it. After scanning the code to open the door and placing items inside, the weight and cash return were displayed almost immediately. It accepts paper, plastic, old clothes—it's very convenient to dispose of these 'waste items' whenever I have them." The device has been running in her community for over a month, attracting many residents and making recyclable disposal increasingly convenient.
Wanquan Sub-district's Vanke Four Seasons Flower City was among the first communities in Shunyi to install these smart recycling bins, and residents have already grown accustomed to the service. Since the bins were put into use in July 2025, they have been frequently utilized. "It's indeed very convenient for us. We now come down two or three times a week, bringing paper, plastic bottles, and other recyclables when we go downstairs. It keeps our balconies clutter-free, our homes cleaner, and allows us to contribute to environmental protection," remarked a resident while using the bin.
Staff from the recycling company conduct daily patrols and collections in their assigned areas. When the recyclables in a smart bin reach 30 kilograms, the backend system alerts workers to replace the collection bag promptly. Vanke Four Seasons Flower City, home to over 6,300 permanent residents, has two smart recycling bins strategically placed in its northern and central areas based on building distribution and resident habits. Recycling company staff visit this community approximately five times a day for collections.
These "Green Convenience Recycling Devices," which offer instant cash returns, have significantly eased the process for residents to handle low-value recyclables. As of May 13, Shunyi residents have made over 670,000 drop-offs, recycling approximately 1,930 tons of materials.
"This year, the Shunyi District Urban Management Committee is focused on comprehensively enhancing the quality of waste sorting stations across the district, constructing enclosed bin stations, and promoting innovation in resource circulation models. We are improving the recyclables collection system so residents can recycle low-value items right within their communities. Additionally, we are continuously exploring models for on-site reduction and resource recycling of kitchen waste to further improve the efficiency and quality of waste sorting," stated the head of the District Urban Management Committee's Urban and Rural Environmental Construction Management Center.
**User Guide:** 1. **Scan to Open:** Use WeChat to scan the QR code on the bin, select "Drop-off," and the door will open automatically. 2. **Drop Items:** Place recyclables such as paper, plastic, metal, and fabric into the bin (ensure items are relatively dry). 3. **Receive Payment & Withdraw:** After closing the door, the weight and amount will be displayed on your phone immediately. Earnings will be credited to your "Aihuishou Green Wallet" within 24 hours and can be withdrawn once the balance reaches 1 yuan.
The system currently supports mixed recycling; residents do not need to pre-sort items at home as the device automatically identifies materials. Please note that kitchen waste, hazardous waste, construction waste, and glass items should not be placed in these bins.
