MOFCOM: Open to Expanding US Agricultural Purchases, But Equal Tariff Cuts Must Be Implemented First

Deep News11-05 16:20

On the afternoon of November 5, the Ministry of Commerce held its regular press conference. Spokesperson Huang Ling, responding to questions about imports of US agricultural products, stated that agricultural trade between China and the US is an important component of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Expanding cooperation in the agricultural trade sector can both enrich the dining tables of both peoples and provide stable economic income for businesses and farmers in both countries, bringing tangible benefits to both sides, Huang said.

Huang stated that China has always maintained an open attitude toward expanding purchases of US agricultural products, but the precondition is the implementation of the reciprocal tariff reduction arrangement of "30 billion versus 30 billion" reached by both sides.

She expressed hope that the US and China will work together to create more favorable conditions for agricultural trade between the two countries through jointly reducing tariffs, cutting non-tariff barriers, and expanding market access.
