A new hub for leisure and recreation has opened its doors in Urumqi.
On the morning of June 1st, at 10 a.m., the start of a color run event brought the rainbow track at Midong Cultural and Sports Park to life with a burst of vibrant activity.
Parents and children dashed across the starting line together, their laughter echoing along the route.
This family-friendly color run marked the first major event held since the park began its phased opening, offering busy city residents a chance to run and play freely with their children.
Free from competitive pressure, the event was a joyful mix of colored powder and smiling faces, with children cheering excitedly as they crossed the finish line and received medals.
As the excitement from the run lingered, the park's newly opened Fantasy Island Floating Water Park welcomed a peak in visitors following its trial operation.
Within the 1,500-square-meter floating water park and the children's sand play area, kids were the first to enjoy the refreshing splash of water.
According to the person in charge, Ma Jianqiang, daily visitor numbers have been climbing steadily since the trial opening, reaching approximately 400 people per day, with plans to add attractions like pleasure boats and water rollers in the future.
Spanning 322,100 square meters, equivalent to about 43 standard football fields, Midong Cultural and Sports Park features an artificial lake covering over 23,400 square meters.
The lakeside is lined with 2,400 square meters of dust-suppressing sandy beach.
Currently, outdoor facilities including football pitches, basketball courts, and tennis courts are open to the public.
The park is designed to offer a year-round experience, adapting to seasonal changes to provide "ice and snow in winter, water activities in summer."
Xu Gang, Deputy General Manager of Urumqi Xingdong Cultural Park Investment and Development Co., Ltd., explained that the park is planned around a "six small, one large" functional zone concept.
This includes areas such as a children's activity center, a petting zoo, a beer plaza, and a youth activity center with a total floor area of 19,000 square meters.
The park is currently in the investment attraction phase, with plans to introduce indoor facilities like a basketball gym, swimming pool, climbing wall, and table tennis areas in the future, creating a comprehensive educational and practical venue for young people.
As more projects gradually open, this all-ages-friendly, four-season public urban space is steadily integrating into the daily lives of the city's residents.
