Hyundai Motor, South Korea's largest automaker, announced during its annual shareholders' meeting that it aims to double its annual sales in the Chinese market as part of its mid-term strategy. CEO José Muñoz stated that the company targets selling 500,000 vehicles annually in China during the mid-term period, more than doubling its current sales volume. Muñoz also revealed that Hyundai plans to launch 36 new models in North America, its most profitable market, by 2030. Each model will include variants such as all-electric, hybrid, and gasoline-powered versions. Currently, Hyundai offers 25 models in the North American market, with 20 of them available in the United States. According to data, Hyundai Motor Group sold 7.274 million vehicles globally in 2025, a slight increase from 7.23 million in 2024, maintaining its position as the world's third-largest automaker for the third consecutive year. Hyundai Motor's global sales in 2025 reached 4.1382 million units, a marginal decline of 0.1% year-on-year. Domestic sales in South Korea increased by 1.1% to 713,000 units, while overseas sales dipped slightly by 0.3% to 3.425 million units. Notably, driven by strong hybrid vehicle performance, Hyundai's sales in the United States grew by 8% to 901,700 units. Meanwhile, its sister brand Kia Motors achieved global sales of 3.1358 million vehicles in 2025, up 2% from the previous year, surpassing its 2024 peak of 3.0893 million units to set a new record. Kia's sales in China also saw growth, rising 2.3% to 254,000 units in 2025. Additionally, leveraging China's leading new energy vehicle supply chain, the country has become a critical hub for Kia's global export operations.
