Iran Announces Comprehensive Regulation of Shipping in Strait of Hormuz

Deep News05-31

On May 30 local time, Iran announced that its armed forces, through the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, have implemented comprehensive management of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. All commercial vessels, oil tankers, and other civilian ships are required to follow designated routes and must obtain prior permission from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.

The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stated that, given the unified nature of waterway management in the Strait of Hormuz, all ships must comply with the passage regulations established by Iran. Any violation of these regulations could seriously impact navigation safety.

Furthermore, the headquarters warned that if any foreign warships attempt to interfere with the management of the Strait of Hormuz or disrupt maritime traffic order, the Iranian armed forces will take corresponding actions.

Previously, Salimi, a member of the presiding board of the Iranian Islamic Parliament, indicated that the parliament's proposal to "exercise sovereign jurisdiction" over the Strait of Hormuz is nearing approval and is expected to become a long-term law.
