President Donald Trump on Friday promoted a $3 billion US investment in critical mineral mining during a meeting with mining executives, aiming to reduce the nation's foreign dependence.
Speaking at an event hosted by the US State Department, Trump stated these projects would "create thousands of jobs and boost our economic stability and security."
"We are putting our miners back to work and restoring America's rightful place as the world's mining superpower," he added.
Trump noted that the investments include a $1.4 billion loan agreement between the US Department of Defense's Strategic Capital Office and Sila Nanotechnologies Inc. Other investments feature a $400 million Pentagon allocation to expand scandium production in Australia, a critical element for aerospace and defense industries, along with a $150 million investment in Niron Magnetics Inc, a rare earth company based in Minnesota.
The US Export-Import Bank is also advancing over $1 billion in financing for US Ivanhoe Electric's Santa Cruz copper mine project in Arizona, as well as a $25 million investment to launch a graphite mine project in Alabama.
Trump also praised a plan committing over $180 million to enhance mining education programs, stating it would "train the next generation of American miners." He said these measures would ensure the US "never again depends on hostile nations for the resources we need to stay ahead."
