Recently, the Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued Announcement No. 44, publishing the second batch of nationally renowned, distinctive and new agricultural products for 2026. Ding'an capon has been included in this list, adding another "national-level" honor to Ding'an.
Ding'an capon is a specialty agricultural product of Ding'an County. Its farming primarily follows a free-range model, with the birds raised in rubber forests and orchards, supplemented by natural feed such as corn and sweet potatoes, with a growth cycle exceeding six months. The ample space for activity and the extended growth period give Ding'an capon its distinctive characteristics of firm, delicate meat with a subtly sweet flavor. Foraging under the forest canopy and growing naturally results in more balanced fat distribution, tight skin, and translucent fat layers, delivering a fresh, savory taste with a satisfying chew that preserves the authentic flavor unique to rural ingredients.
In Ding'an's local culture, capon is also a key ingredient in regional specialties such as chicken rice and chicken congee. Slowly cooked capon retains its fresh, original flavor, and the chicken fat soaking into the rice creates a rich, aromatic taste, becoming a lasting memory of Ding'an's rural flavors for many. Chicken rice carries the local culinary tradition and has also driven Ding'an capon from the farming stage to the dining table, forming a more recognizable regional flavor.
In recent years, the Ding'an capon industry has accelerated its transformation and upgrading, achieving standardized management through smart farming systems and increasing farmers' income through cooperative-driven models, gradually forming an industrial chain from farming management to market supply, becoming an important industry for local rural revitalization. This inclusion in the national list of renowned, distinctive and new agricultural products affirms Ding'an capon's regional characteristics, nutritional quality, and market recognition, and will further promote its standardized, scaled, and branded development.
It is understood that nationally renowned, distinctive and new agricultural products refer to agricultural products and primary processed products that are produced in specific regions, possess significant regional characteristics and unique nutritional quality features, have a certain production scale and stable supply, enjoy high market recognition and reputation, and are certified and issued certificates by the Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The inclusion of Ding'an capon means it is rapidly moving from a local specialty agricultural product toward a broader market, becoming a new calling card showcasing Ding'an's agricultural characteristics and the achievements of rural industrial revitalization.
