On March 3rd, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) Beijing Alumni Association successfully convened its member assembly and the election meeting for its third council. Attendees included representatives from PolyU's Mainland Development Office, the Beijing Center, members of the second council, candidates for the third council, and general alumni representatives.

The outgoing president of the second council delivered an opening address, welcoming attendees and reviewing the council's work during its term. Subsequently, the assembly officially announced the establishment of the third council. Shen Peng, Founder and CEO of Waterdrop Inc. (WDH.US) and a recipient of PolyU's 2024 "Distinguished Alumni Award," was elected as the new president.

Shen Peng expressed gratitude for the trust and support of fellow alumni, acknowledged the achievements of the alumni association over the past six years, and outlined the general direction for the new term. He emphasized that the association's mission is to serve alumni, the alma mater, and regional development by uniting alumni and building platforms for communication and cooperation.

On March 7th, during a PolyU mainland alumni联谊晚会 (fellowship evening), the new Beijing Alumni Association council officially assumed its duties. A senior representative from PolyU presented a certificate of appreciation to the outgoing council. The background for the council transition was explained, and the new council member list was announced, injecting fresh vitality into the association's future. Appointment certificates were then issued to the new council members in the presence of all attendees.

As a serial entrepreneur, Shen Peng was involved in the creation of Meituan's food delivery service and founded Waterdrop Inc. in 2016. The company's mission is to leverage internet technology to ensure accessible healthcare and insurance protection for millions of families. It pioneered a new model in China combining "critical illness crowdfunding + insurance protection," enhancing the industry's digital capabilities. In health services, Waterdrop actively explores and strengthens collaborations with hospitals and pharmaceutical companies to provide users with broader healthcare services.

Driven by Shen Peng, Waterdrop is committed to integrating "AI + insurance protection + healthcare." The company invests nearly 300 million yuan annually in R&D, holds over 100 AI patents, and continuously explores applications for big data and AI technologies across the industrial value chain. Through proprietary developments like the "Waterdrop AI Guardian Model" and the implementation of innovative applications such as the AI underwriting expert "KEYI.AI," AI customer service "Baoxiaohui," and AI quality inspection systems, Waterdrop has significantly improved service efficiency and user experience. Recently, the company launched the Waterdrop AI Assistant—ClawSquare, which utilizes AI agents for multi-turn interactions and task completion, establishing a new paradigm for agent collaboration.

Waterdrop also explores international expansion in various forms. In Hong Kong, it established a licensed insurance brokerage firm, Waterdrop Financial, in 2023, offering professional insurance brokerage and wealth planning services to individuals and enterprises, including whole life, critical illness, medical insurance, universal life, MPF, and investment-linked plans. Additionally, to support talent development, Waterdrop launched "Mainland-Hong Kong无忧," a one-stop service platform for life in Hong Kong, Macau, and overseas, providing comprehensive services covering identity planning, corporate expansion, children's education, and medical care. To date, this platform has established five regional service centers in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, serving thousands of middle-class families.

Due to his contributions to critical illness assistance, insurance technology, and the health service industry, Shen Peng has received widespread recognition, including honors such as Beijing's Advanced Individual in Employment and Entrepreneurship, and features in lists like Forbes' "30 Under 30 Asia" and Fortune's "40 Under 40 China." He also holds several significant social roles.

Since its establishment, the PolyU Beijing Alumni Association has been dedicated to serving alumni in Beijing and fostering exchange and cooperation among them. Over the years, it has become a vital link connecting PolyU alumni with their alma mater and society. The formation of the third council injects new momentum into the association. It will continue to improve alumni services, diversify activities, and build superior platforms for alumni exchange and development, contributing to the shared growth of the alma mater and its alumni, and supporting Beijing-Hong Kong integration and national strategic goals.
