On November 23, it was announced that the widening and renovation project of the underpass at Huaguoshan Interchange in Lianyungang Economic Development Zone has been fully completed and officially opened to traffic. This marks a significant improvement in urban connectivity between the Economic Development Zone and Haizhou, the city’s main urban area, with traffic efficiency set to rise substantially.
The Economic Development Zone serves not only as an industrial hub but also as a new urban center for the main city. To enhance transportation efficiency between the zone and Haizhou as well as Lianyungang’s urban districts, the city has accelerated upgrades to its existing road network. This year, the 1,330-meter-long Chaoyang Avenue was successfully opened, eliminating a regional bottleneck.
As an emerging industrial city, the Economic Development Zone experiences rapid flows of people, goods, and information, necessitating a scientifically planned road network to support its growth. The renovation of Huaguoshan Interchange addresses a critical traffic pain point by reconstructing the underpass beneath the Longhai Railway, optimizing it into a "motor vehicle lane + shared pedestrian/bike path" layout, and adding lanes to alleviate long right-turn delays. Now, northbound-to-southbound right turns onto Gangcheng Avenue feature dual lanes, while southbound-to-northbound right turns onto Tongyuan Road have a dedicated new lane, ensuring smoother and more orderly traffic.
With the continuous improvement of urban functions in the Economic Development Zone, enhancing pedestrian and traffic flow is essential. The newly opened Chaoyang Avenue, a six-lane arterial road connecting northern residential service areas to southern tourism and leisure zones, has significantly eased regional congestion. Beyond facilitating vehicle movement, the road has invigorated local development, unlocking new potential for land development and industrial upgrades along its route.
According to officials from the zone’s urban construction department, Chaoyang Avenue is not just a transportation artery but also a "scenic corridor" and a "cultural-tourism link," seamlessly integrating Huaguoshan Scenic Area, surrounding communities, and agricultural resources. Tourists can now access destinations like Hanli Village without detours, while roadside pick-your-own farms and homestays are poised for fresh growth opportunities. This road is set to become a new showcase for cultural-tourism integration, highlighting the northern gateway of Huaguoshan.
