Hong Kong property stocks came under pressure, with Hang Lung Properties (00101) falling 3.13% to HK$6.35, Sun Hung Kai Properties (00016) dropping 2.1% to HK$107.4, and Swire Properties (01972) declining 1.7% to HK$24.28 as of press time.
On the news front, the market is focused on the upcoming U.S. CPI data to be released tonight, with two Federal Reserve officials making hawkish remarks. Boston Fed President Collins stated that she supports another rate hike this year to combat inflation. Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin said that shocks appear to be continuing and that taking measures to address inflation is prudent.
Huatai Securities noted that Hong Kong residential transaction volumes, prices, and rents all experienced adjustments in September. Against the backdrop of repeated shifts in Fed rate hike expectations and the difficulty of a near-term reversal in Hong Kong stocks, short-term adjustments may persist, though the brokerage remains confident in the recovery cycle over the next 2-3 years.
Additionally, Hong Kong's 2026 Policy Address and five-year plan did not include short-term property measures, which was in line with market expectations.
