Yum Brands, Inc. achieved revenue growth in the first quarter, primarily driven by the strong performance of its Taco Bell and KFC chain brands. The fast-food operator reported on Wednesday for the quarter ended March 31.
Quarterly net profit was $432 million, or $1.55 per share, compared to a net profit of $253 million, or $0.90 per share, in the same period last year. Excluding one-time items, adjusted earnings per share were $1.50, surpassing the $1.38 per share expected by analysts surveyed by FactSet.
Revenue increased by 15% year-over-year to $2.06 billion, exceeding market expectations of $2.04 billion.
Same-store sales performance across brands was as follows: - Taco Bell: Same-store sales grew by 8% - KFC: Same-store sales increased by 2% - Pizza Hut: Same-store sales were largely flat compared to the prior year period.
